The historical marker outside the museum. This is indeed the second depot built. The first one was destroyed in the 1927 tornado that destroyed much of the downtown district of Poplar Bluff and killed 107 people. The new depot built in 1928 was the only spanish mission style depot ever built by the Frisco, it is the only one in Missouri that was spanish mission style, and it was one of the first former Frisco depots to be made into a museum. The recently donated bell is now on a pole in the front yard. A special thanks to Joe Falvey who was very involved with this project. This is indeed one of the last remaining Frisco depots in the country. The old "Frisco" (really N-H) caboose number 303 has a patio built in front of it for outdoor get togethers. This station is on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is active in Operation Lifesaver www.oli.org Here's a night photo of the museum on October 20, 2004. Here we see EMD NS GP59 4634 in the Operation Lifesaver Scheme emerging from the tunnel on our layout on 10-31-04. Here we see the train rounding the curve near the yards while the UP SD70Ms stand watch in the yard throat while occupying the diamonds. That's me in Amtrak Sightseer Lounge Car #33020 on the Texas Eagle Train #21 traveling with my dad, we're headed southbound near Elkhart, Illinois on August 9, 2005 at 6:48 P.M., we had been to Milwaukee, Wisconsin via Amtrak, what a fun trip!
